The Light Within

Although we are in the middle of the summer and the sun is shining and the day are longer, there seem to be a darkness surrounding us which make me feel the need to reconnect with the light within me..
Food wise this is my favourite time of the year and I am enjoying the summer bounty and the opportunity to slow down and restore my body energy with a lighter, tasty and nourishing food of a variety of colours. I'm also enjoying my cycle rides, this year as it is getting hotter I made sure I was well covered up as I burn easily believe or not, and I enjoy the sun by not the heat.
Some of you must wonder why I’m talking about food when I mention that I want to reconnect with the light within. Well, we wouldn’t have all this nice food if it wasn’t for the light of the sun, so nourishing my body with food that love or "heal" it is also very beneficial for my mind.

The other way I reconnect is through meditation and I’ve now up my routine to twice a day, in the morning and evening, this helps me feel more relaxed and detached throughout the day, which I found is becoming essential to my wellbeing. It is not that I don’t care about what is happening around me, it more that I do not feel the need to react to it all the time. There is so much happening in my personal life, at work and around me; I would be in fight and flight state constantly if I did not switch off at some point.
I have even been drawn to do a more gentle kind of exercise, as well as yoga I now practice Qigong. As an Energy/Reiki practitioner this exercise “speak” to me as I can feel the energy when I practice it and as I really feel the need to “BE” rather than “DO”. Qigong for me is a moving meditation and just what I was looking for at this time; and the forms I am learning are exactly what I need to help me maintain my physical, emotional and spiritual wellbeing. These particular forms are taking inspiration from nature’s elements, the Earth, the animals and the Chi (the life force running through every sentient),.It’s also based on a Taoist & Buddhist philosophy and makes me even more aware of my emotions and state of mind and its effect on my body.
I have read that this year is the end of a cycle, and we can see it, as everything seems to come to the surface so it can be transmuted or released. And although everything seems to go at hundred miles an hour around me I really feel the need to slow down, take stock and prepare for the next phase in my life and not just mine but the whole humankind. So I need to look within and shine my light to help me feel where I am going, and not just be caught in the merry go round of fear and darkness.
Like in the Qigong form of "separating the clouds" which hide the sun or the light, which is always there for us; we can remember that Love is the other choice well worth going for, actually like the sun we don’t have to search for it, it is always there!
After all it’s summertime the time to rejoice and celebrate the Light , Love & Life all around us.
